It is legal to drive in Cyprus after drinking a small amount of alcohol.

The legal blood alcohol level is 0.22 ppm, which is equivalent to about two glasses of wine or 50 grams of spirits.

Fines:

0.5 - 1.19 ppm: fine 200 euros, detention of the driver and car. Someone else must pick up the driver, otherwise he will have to sober up at the police station.

1.2 - 1.6 ppm: fine 300 euros.

More than 1.6 ppm: the case is sent to court, the possible punishment is imprisonment for up to three years and deprivation of driving license. It all depends on the circumstances of the detention.

If the driver refuses to undergo a breathalyzer test, the case is also sent to court. Tests usually begin in the evening, after 9-10 pm.
